International partnerships continued to grow this week as Loughborough College received a warm welcome from educators in China.

The British Council and Association of Colleges are amongst supporters of a range of initiatives undertaken by the College which have seen fully-funded visits to develop projects with nations including China, offering exciting opportunities for students and staff in both countries.

After teaching master classes in several schools and meeting with education leaders in China earlier this year, Loughborough College has returned to Chengdu where Chief Executive John Doherty signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jianyang Middle School – the most reputable and high quality school in the city.

The MOU will see the College provide A-level preparation courses to the school’s students as well as soon welcome seven of its teachers to Loughborough, in order to support them with enhanced teaching and learning delivery. In spring, as part of an exchange programme, a group of A-level students from Loughborough College will spend time inJianyang, attending the Middle School alongside its 8,000 students - who have access to outstanding on site facilities, including a sports stadium.

While at Jianyang Middle School this week John Doherty, together with Loughborough College Director of Business Development Gemma Knott and Deputy Head of Sixth Form Angela Mogridge, were invited to judge an English speaking competition with the school offering a top prize opportunity to travel to Loughborough and join the College’s Winter experience programme for free.

“It has been wonderful to spend time at Jianyang Middle School. It was an honour to help judge the competition and we look forward to welcoming the winning student to Loughborough College,” said Gemma Knott.

“We are delighted to have signed the MOU with the school, further developing our partnership and China-Britain education programme.

“This offers the prospect of outstanding long-term opportunities for both countries.

“As Loughborough College’s relationships in China continue to grow, students and staff are seeing real gains from its ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative.”

The initiative supports the development of China’s provinces and the links between them as well as connections with more than 60 nations, helping to build sustainable growth and prosperity within the country and to bring benefits from new commercial opportunities.
